Advisory
Participatory Research
Across our projects, our goal is to foster reciprocal relationships with community members with diverse professional, academic, and lived experiences that centres the needs and expertise of clients of care.
We prioritize meaningful partnerships with community members and advisors throughout the research process, from developing the research question, to data collection, to data analysis and beyond. We seek to empower community partners and advisors through capacity building activities and leadership opportunities across our projects.
Our work is decolonizing, relational, and above all joyful. We aim to disrupt traditional academic structures by partnering directly with community experts with lived experience. Ultimately, we seek to generate evidence that empowers women, girls, and gender diverse people to take charge of their reproductive health on their own terms.
About the Advisory
Our advisory is made up of youth, community members, Indigenous health leaders, clinicians, and researchers. Advisory members are invited to participate on projects that are compatible with their professional and learning desires as well as their expertise.
Advisor engagement depends on the nature and needs of the project and community. Although we sometimes engage in consultation, our primary focus is authentic co-production in all aspects of the research process. Take a look at some of our project partnerships:
-
The Sacred Stories Collaborative (SSC) is a community-led advisory that amplifies Indigenous voices, stories, and experiences through strengths-based, culturally grounded research and storytelling. Rooted in Indigenous methodologies, the Collaboratives' work creates and centres safe spaces for dialogue, healing, and knowledge sharing around research studies and topics like reproductive justice, health, and family well-being. -
The Ask Us Youth Advisory is a group of alumni Youth Research Associates and students who support the Ask Us Project through data analysis and knowledge translation. This includes manuscript development and creative research outputs and resources. Learn more about the Ask Us Project.
