Hajar Seiyad (she/her)
I am a second-generation Sri Lankan Canadian, born and raised in Toronto, where I continue to live on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. My work is grounded in a commitment to equity, access, and community-driven approaches to health.
My interest in reproductive health and health equity grew through my academic background in Mental Health Studies and Political Science, and through my qualitative research experiences in reproductive and mental health, as well as social work.
I’m currently a Youth Advisor with CAMH on a project developing best practice guidelines for engaging people with lived experience in mental health research. I also co-founded and volunteer with the Youth Policy Advocates’ Policy Corner as Editorial Coordinator, where I help create space for youth to share policy writing and creative work. Across all my work, I’m guided by a belief in meaningful youth engagement, accessibility, and equity in both research and policy spaces.
Outside of work, I enjoy baking, reading, and finding new coffee shops around Toronto.
