Capturing Tradeoffs
Societal Preferences for Access to Abortion Among Texas Residents: Capturing Tradeoffs Using a Discrete Choice Experiment
In this research project we aimed to create new evidence about what matters most to people in Texas when choosing to travel for an abortion, especially among communities experiencing health disparities due to systems of oppression.
We began by building relationships with community organizations that support people seeking abortion. In 2024, we then conducted online interviews to understand what matters most to people from Texas in traveling for abortion care. Using those data, we then designed and conducted a survey (‘discrete choice experiment’) in summer 2025 with a large sample with people in Texas who would consider an abortion if pregnant.
